FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Finely dispersed particles form explosive mixtures in air.
Prevent build-up of electrostatic charges (e.g., by grounding).
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
    		• Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Burning sensation. Dizziness. Headache. Laboured breathing. Sore throat. Weakness. Disturbed vision.
    		Local exhaust or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Yellowing of skin (further see Inhalation).
    		Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
    		First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Redness.
    		Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• Abdominal pain. Blue skin. Diarrhoea. Dizziness. Headache. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Vomiting.
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    		Rinse mouth. Give large quantities of water to drink. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Consult an expert! Ventilation. Sweep spilled substance into containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    		Separated from strong oxidants, strong bases, food and feedstuffs, metals such as tin and zinc, nitric acid, reducing agents. Cool. Dry.
    		Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     WHITE TO PALE YELLOW CRYSTALS , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     May explode on heating under confinement. On combustion, forms toxic gases and fumes. Reacts violently with strong oxidants, strong bases, and reducing agents, causing fire and explosion hazard. Mixtures with nitric acid are highly explosive!

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
     TLV: 0.15 ppm; 1.0 mg/m3 (as TWA) (skin) (ACGIH 1991-1992).


    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin, and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
     A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20░C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. The substance may cause effects on the lungs and the blood , resulting in the formation of methaemoglobin. Exposure may result in unconsciousness. Exposure may result in death. The effects may be delayed.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
     Prolonged exposure may lead to liver damage. Does cause serious reproductive toxicity in humans. See also ICSC # 0691.
